Can chiropractic be complimentary to mainstream medicine?

MD referrals to chiropractic offices are becoming more and more frequent. Interdisciplinary office settings and rehabilitation centers are becoming more common. This is due to increased research that has shown substantial evidence that chiropractic manipulation has profound effects on the body’s healing for the majority of musculoskeletal issues. Standardization of our chiropractic schools provides the education needed to evaluate and diagnose musculoskeletal andnon-musculoskeletal problems. Furthermore, visits to a chiropractor are reimbursed by most medical plans. Primary care physicians are becoming more informed and educated about our unique skills and management in caring for perplexing problems.
Although chiropractic is an alternative health care science, it can augment and provide better results when combined with conventional medical care. For example, next to the common cold, the number one problem that brings patients to their primary care doctor is neck and back pain. The conventional treatment is muscle relaxers, pain killers, and physical therapy. This treatment protocol at times provides temporary relief with the medicine and exercises that may or may not be beneficial to the patient. Chiropractic can help close the loop by providing joint mobilization which can normalize joint function. This enables better movement, better rehabilitation, and increased strength which can give longer lasting relief from their condition.
Here at Chiropractic and Wellness Center, we see referrals from medical doctors on a frequent basis. Trust that is built on this relationship is based on our knowledge of knowing when to treat and when not to. This has provided a safe haven for primary physicians to send their patients to, thus allowing the chiropractic profession to move from just alternative to complimentary as well.
